Apply for an advance payment (optional)
An advance payments is optional and it is a loan. It will be taken from your monthly UC payments at an amount set by the DWP. Once it is being deducted there is no renegotiation on the rate it is paid back at so it is best to borrow the lowest amount needed to get you through to the first UC payment, and to ask for the longest repayment time.

Tip! If your employment has stopped through being made unemployed - or through sickness and you no longer receive statutory sick pay - remember to claim New Style ESA or JSA. We won't overwhelm you with the details but it gives you some useful things like protecting your National Insurance contribution record and any future entitlement (i.e. benefits)
